Educational Benefits

If you have been in the military and believe you may be eligible to receive Veterans Education Benefits, you can email [email protected] and schedule an appointment.

Please be sure to bring the following documents to your meeting:

  • Completed application or Certificate of Eligibility,
  • Certificate of Discharge (DD-214) or Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE)
  • A copy of your current class schedule.

Types of Educational Benefits

Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty (MGIB-AD), Chapter 30
The MGIB-AD program—sometimes known as Chapter 30—provides education benefits to Veterans and Servicemembers who have at least two years of active duty.

  • Certificate of Eligibility letter from the VA once your application is processed
  • Class schedule with tuition/fees each semester
  • Student veteran must verify school attendance each month to receive benefits, (888) 442-4551



Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment, Chapter 31
Servicemembers expecting a discharge that is other than dishonorable who possess a VA memorandum or Integrated Disability Evaluation System (IDES) rating of 20 percent or more—as well as Servicemembers currently going through a Physical Evaluation Board—may be eligible to receive Vocational Rehabilitation (VocRehab) and Employment services.

  • Form 28-1905, Authorization Form from VA Newark Office
  • Class schedule with tuition/fees each semester
  • Form 28-1905 Completed by School Certifying Official, brought to book store for books and supplies



Post 9/11 GI Bill®, Chapter 33
If you have at least 90 days of aggregate active duty service after Sept. 10, 2001, and are still on active duty, or if you are an honorably discharged Veteran or were discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days, you may be eligible for this VA-administered program.

  • Certificate of Eligibility letter from the VA once your application is processed
  • Class schedule with tuition/fees each semester



Post 9/11 GI Bill® Transferability
The transferability option under the Post-9/11 GI Bill allows Servicemembers to transfer all or some unused benefits to their spouse or dependent children. The Department of Defense (DoD) determines whether or not you can transfer benefits to your family. Once the DoD approves benefits for transfer, the new beneficiaries apply for them at VA.



Survivors and Dependent Assistance, Chapter 35
The Dependents’ Educational Assistance (DEA) program offers education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of Veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition or of Veterans who died while on active duty or as a result of a service-related condition.

  • Certificate of Eligibility letter from the VA once your application is processed
  • Class schedule with tuition/fees each semester
  • Student must verify school attendance each month to receive benefits if in a certificate program only, (888) 442-4551



Montgomery GI Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR), Chapter 1606
The MGIB-SR program provides education and training benefits to eligible members of the Selected Reserve, including the Army Reserve, Navy Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve and Coast Guard Reserve, and the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard. Eligibility for this program is determined by the Selected Reserve components and VA makes the payments.

  • Form 621-2-R, NJNGTP Commander’s Certificate of Eligibility (if student chooses to use this)
  • Copy of Kicker documentation
  • Certificate of Eligibility letter from the VA once your application is processed
  • Class schedule with tuition/fees each semester
  • Student veteran must verify school attendance each month to receive benefits, (888) 442-4551



Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP), Chapter 1607
REAP provides educational assistance to members of the Reserve components called or ordered to active duty in response to a war or national emergency declared by the president or Congress.

  • Form 621-2-R, NJNGTP Commander’s Certificate of Eligibility (if student chooses to use this)
  • Certificate of Eligibility letter from the VA once your application is processed
  • Class schedule with tuition/fees each semester
  • Complete FAFSA with the Financial Aid office or online 
  • Student veteran must verify school attendance each month to receive benefits, (888) 442-4551


New Jersey National Guard Tuition (Waiver) Program

  • Must apply for financial aid annually using FAFSA www.fafsa.ed.gov
  • Provide NJDMAVA Form 621-2-R “Commander’s Certificate” every semester (unit issued)

Army Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA)

  • Must request TA online
  • TA requests must be requested AND approved prior to the start of class
  • Statement of Understanding and signed Degree Plan must be updated in GoArmyEd.com
  • Must provide TA Approval worksheet along with class schedule with tuition/fees each semester

If you have received GI Bill® benefits at another institution, you need to submit:

  • DD-214, NOBE (Notice of Basic Eligibility), or Commander’s Certification
  • Official Transcript
  • Class schedule with tuition/fees each semester
