WORKSHOP TITLE: Personal Finance 101


DESCRIPTION: This workshop focuses on the fundamental concepts students need to know in order to manage their personal finances sensibly. It will challenge and, hopefully, change the way students think about money and making important personal financial decisions.

GOALS: To broaden students’ understanding of personal finance in all areas of their financial life such as: spending, taxes, saving, insurance, and planning for major goals like education, buying a home and retirement.


STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES:
1. Students will be challenged to think about their finances in a new way and identify areas for improvement.
2. Students will be able to identify where their hard earned dollars are going and pinpoint several ways to make those dollars go toward helping them build up a savings.
3. Students will learn how to pick their investments wisely and know the differences between stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and retirement accounts.
