WORKSHOP TITLE: Overcome Your Math Anxiety


DESCRIPTION: The aim of this workshop is to provide students with the information and skills necessary to manage and overcome their math anxiety.  Students will learn how to study and prepare for math tests, take notes and do homework effectively, and make good use of class time and all available college resources.  Students will also learn anxiety reduction techniques which will serve to reduce their test anxiety and increase their chances for success when taking tests and examinations.

Presenters:  Kavita Patel, Math Department; Counselor, Center for Student Success.

GOALS: The goals of this workshop are to help students devise study strategies and learn anxiety reduction techniques which will serve to increase their chances for success in the area of math.


STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES:

1. Students will be better able to understand the reasons for their math anxiety and will be able to choose effective methods of preparing for tests and will learn how to adapt these methods according to their particular style of learning.

2. Students will be able to identify anxiety reduction techniques and use them to reduce stress and anxiety during math tests and examinations

3. Students will be able to report an increased level of self-confidence when taking math tests and examinations.
