1. What services are available to student through the Center for Student Success?
The Center for Student Success is dedicated to helping students achieve their academic, career, and personal goals. The available services are designed to assist students in sorting out the many choices and decisions that they face in a college setting. Counselors and Student Development Specialists will assist you with:
- Academic planning
- Transfer planning
- Career development and exploration
- Goal setting
- Choosing a major or changing a major
- Interpreting College policies and procedures
- Coping with challenges and stresses of college life
- Referrals to community agencies
2. I don’t know what I want to do after I graduate from PCCC. Can anyone help?
Members of the Staff in the Center for Student Success can assist you in exploring your options, evaluating the possibilities, and making decisions.
3. Do I need to make an appointment?
Appointments are recommended. However, each Counselor and Student Development Specialist has weekly drop-in hours when no appointment is necessary. Drop-in hours are posted in the Center for Student Success.
4. How can I find out who my Counselor or Student Development Specialist is?
Each new student is assigned a Counselor or Student Development Specialist in the Center for Student Success (A230) during his/her first semester at PCCC. When a student has earned three (3) college level credits and has declared a major, they are assigned t their major department for advising until they graduate.
5. Does PCCC offer a new student orientation?
Every incoming freshman should attend the new student orientation program presented by the Center for Student Success Staff. This important program provides students with the opportunity to meet other new students, learn about PCCC, and become familiar with the various resources on campus. If you are a brand new student, you will be invited to the orientation soon after you take the placement test. Please contact the Center for Student Success at 973-684-5224 or stop by Room A230 for dates and times.
6. What do I do if I want to start a club?
If you have an idea for a club, please contact the Student Activities Office (Room E102). All activities should be related to the goals and objectives of the organization and be approved by the club advisor and the Director of Student Activities.
