Advisement

Academic Advisement is an educational process that assists students in the clarification of their life and career goals. An important function of our program is to provide accurate information about academic programs and the selection of a college major. Students can comprehensively plan their academic program with the Center for Student Success.

Students must make an appointment with the appropriate Advisor before they select their courses. Students can find out who their Advisor is by contacting the Center for Student Success at 973-684-5524 or by stopping in the Center, which is located in A230. Students who have earned forty credits or more in their majors must meet with the respective Department Chairperson for graduation consultation and approval of the students' schedules.

Advising takes place throughout the year, but the heaviest concentration of this activity occurs prior to each new semester: Fall, Spring, Summer I, and Summer II. This activity is referred to as Early Registration. Participating in early registration allows students to have greater control over their academic schedules. Early registration dates are published on the College’s web page as well as in the Course Schedule that is published prior to the start of every early registration period.
