Academic Counseling
The staff of the Center for Student Success is dedicated to assisting students in achieving their academic, career, and personal goals. Our services are designed to assist students in sorting out the many choices and decisions that students are confronted with in a college setting.
Counselors and Student Development Specialists will assist you with:
- Academic planning
- Transfer planning
- Career development and exploration
- Discussing choosing a major
- Goal Setting
- Coping with the challenges and stresses of college life
- Referrals to community agencies
- Interpreting College policies and procedures
Career Counseling
If you are uncertain about how to align your career goals with your educational goals, speak to a Counselor or Student Development Specialist. They are trained to help people make career choices based on their interest, values and abilities. Once you have an idea of what you want to do, you will be to the resources that will give you the information about which academix program would be right for you.
Drop-In Services
You may need assistance in changing a class schedule (adding/dropping), withdrawing from school, or identifying the correct office/person on campus to speak to obtaint certain information. sometimes personal difficulties such as family, work, or self-esteem issues can delay students from reaching their goals. If you feel a personal issue is getting in the way of your academic success, your Counselor or Student Development Specialist will be able to help. If you need immediate assistance, first try to see your assigned Counselor or Student Development Specialist. If they are not available, you may speak to the Counselor or Student Development Specialist on-duty and get immediate help. Personal Counseling
Sometimes personal difficulties such as family, work, or self-esteem issues can delay students from reaching their goals. If you feel a personal issue may get in the way of your college success, a counselor will listen to you and offer alternative strategies for difficult situations. When necessary, a counselor can refer students to community agencies.
Veterans Services
If you have been in the military and have contributed toward the Montgomery GI Bill, you can contact our Veterans Services Representative Daphne Lin Chang at (973) 684-6163, Wanaque Campus. Please bring the following documents to your meeting: a Certificate of Discharge (DD Form 214), a copy of your transcript and a paid bill stamped by the Bursar.
