(Posted 8-25-14)

In December 2013, Wayne Martin was appointed the new Director of Athletics at Passaic County Community College and comes to the College with a wealth of experience as an intercollegiate coach and administrator.

“I am delighted to be here,” says Martin, now at the midpoint of his first year at PCCC.  “It’s great to be back working as an Athletic Director in New Jersey and reconnecting with colleagues affiliated with NJCAA Region XIX.”

Martin said he “hit the ground running” when he came to PCCC and already has started to implement an ambitious vision that includes improving facilities, increasing community outreach, expanding wellness programs, and guiding his athletes to academic, career, and personal achievement. Previously, Martin served as Head Men's Coach and Tennis Center Manager at The City University of New York at Queens College from 2012 - 2013.  In his first year, he completed the season with a 12 – 6 record and led his team to a second place finish in the NCAA Division 2 East Regional Championships.

Before that he served as Director of Tennis at ASA College in Brooklyn, New York where he guided both the women's and men's teams to national prominence at the junior college level while earning  NJCAA  rankings of 3rd and 11th in the country for the respective teams.

Martin also had a stellar, seven-year NCAA Division 1 career as the Head Women’s Tennis Coach at Long Island University where he guided the team to an ITA/College Tennis Online National ranking of No. 68 in 2002 and No. 72 in 2004.

He compiled a 100-48 record during that span, including two consecutive trips to the Northeast Conference Championship Finals.

“Tennis was the pinnacle of my career,” says Martin, who served on several committees of the United States Tennis Association and was also regional director for New Jersey.

In 2005, he was awarded “College Coach of the Year” by the United States Professional Tennis Association- Eastern Division for his 100th career win and tireless efforts on behalf of the sport.

Martin previously held Director of Athletic posts at Raritan Valley Community College (NJ) and Hostos Community College (NY). Under his leadership, the Hostos Athletic Department acquired City University of New York Athletic Conference championship titles in Women’s Basketball, Women’s Volleyball and Men’s Basketball, respectively.

Martin received an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts from Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY and a Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. He also has a Master's of Science Degree in Human Resource Management from Long Island University.

In addition to his administrative duties, Martin plans to teach courses in PCCC’s new Sports Management program.  He will co-direct the College’s Black Male Leadership Initiative Program starting Fall 2014 and is an apprentice in the City of Paterson Leadership Program.

“I’m thankful to Dr. Sharon Goldstein, Dean of Student Affairs for providing me this opportunity along with the support of the PCCC Family,” said Martin.  “It is truly a blessing.”

Martin resides in New Jersey with his wife Judy.
