More than 400 graduates from four campuses received their diplomas and certificates on May 21, 2009 in the 37th annual commencements exercises at Passaic County Community College. The ceremony was held at PCCC’s main campus in Paterson. Diplomas and certificates were conferred by Dr. Steven Rose, the College president.

Commencement speaker was Assemblyman Gary Schaer, of the 36th District of the 213th New Jersey State Legislature. The 36th District includes the City of Passaic where PCCC opened its fourth campus last year. An investment consultant by occupation, Assemblyman Schaer has served in the General Assembly since 2006 and on the Passaic City Council since 1994.

The 2009 valedictorian was Richard Girardin of West Milford, New Jersey who received his Associate in Arts degree in Liberal Arts/Humanities.  This year’s graduating class also included a mother and daughter who both received degrees, and two women who overcame physical and social challenges to achieve their educational goals.  Go to the links above to read more about them.
