DEGREE AND CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS

 
In September 2013, the Science Department updated all of it's degree programs.  Students entering after September 2013 should select from the programs below.

 
CURRENT PROGRAMS

 
ASSOCIATE IN SCIENCE (A.S.) DEGREE –Environmental Sustainability
 
This degree is for those students who seek a general understanding of environmental sustainability issues and who plan to transfer to a four-year institution. The curriculum is designed to introduce students to the concepts and methods employed in the study of ecology and geology, environmental biology and chemistry, environmental ethics and economics, earth-systems management and additional disciplines relevant to the sustainable use of environmental resources. For ease of transfer, the curriculum is based in the liberal arts and is designed to be congruent with the curricula of science programs at other colleges.

ASSOCIATE IN SCIENCE (A.S.) DEGREE – Liberal Arts

The Science Department at PCCC offers the A.S. degree in Liberal Arts for students who plan to transfer to a four-year institution. For ease of transfer, the curriculum is based in the liberal arts allowing students to complete general education requirements. It is designed to fit the curricula of science programs at other colleges. Students may select one of the following degree options:

 
Biology Option

This option is for those students who seek a concentration in the biological sciences and who plan to transfer to a four-year institution. The curriculum is designed to provide a solid academic foundation for students who plan to attend a wide range of programs including medical, dental, veterinary, pharmacy, physician’s assistant or other health-related schools. For ease of transfer, the curriculum is based in the liberal arts and is designed to be congruent with the curricula of science programs at other colleges.

Physical Science Option

This option is for those students who seek a foundation in chemistry, physics and mathematics and who plan to transfer to a four-year institution. The curriculum is designed to provide a solid academic foundation for students who plan to attend a wide range of programs including chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemistry, physics,astrophysics, meteorology, astronomy, and geology. For ease of transfer, the curriculum is based in the liberal arts and is designed to be congruent with the curricula of science programs at other colleges.

Exercise Science Option

This program is designed to promote job placement and career advancement in the field of Exercise Science. The A.S. degree qualifies graduates for a broad spectrum of employment opportunities and may promote advancement to a bachelor’s degree.

This program prepares students for employment in corporate and commercial health fitness centers.
