Associate in Applied Science Degree

For those seeking careers as administrative assistants, word processing specialists, and office managers.


Graduates should be able to:

  • Type at least 60 words per minute (wpm) with no more than 5 errors
  • Take dictation at a speed of at least 60 wpm and transcribe with 95 percent accuracy
  • Perform tasks on at least four software packages (in a Windows environment), which include word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, and database programs
  • Enter office occupations with the necessary skills to serve in a supervisory capacity
  • Identify primary forces that affect human behavior at work and in other life situations
  • Keep financial records and record disbursements and receipts for small businesses
  • Prepare business documents from unarranged copy into mailable form
  • Develop the necessary skills to operate effectively in a diverse work situation that includes various ethnic groups
  • Use technical editing skills to detect errors of inconsistency, parallelism, and sentence structure
  • Use up-to-date technology to transmit, receive, and/or research information
