CRIMINAL HISTORY BACKGROUND CHECK

The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health care
Organizations (JCAHO), the primary accrediting body for our
clinical agencies, has mandated criminal history background
checks for all individuals involved in patient care.

All nursing students must undergo criminal history background checks. These checks are conducted by an external vendor.

The cost of this background check is the student's responsibility. The information is sent to the college and the clinical agencies.

Only students with a CLEAR background report are eligible to participate in clinical. If the background check is NOT CLEAR, the student must withdraw from the program. Background checks are required annually while the student is in the program and if the report is NOT CLEAR at any time during the student’s enrollment in the program, the student will not be permitted to continue in the program.

All applicants must be aware that an additional criminal history
background check is required by the NJ State Board of Nursing
prior to licensure as a registered professional nurse.
