FAQ

ESL Express Semester

1. What is the Express Semester?

The Express Program offers intensive ESL grammar, reading and writing courses at the 002, 003 and 004 levels.  Courses meet 4 or 5 days a week for 1 hour and 15 minutes a day.  In addition, students are required to attend 2 one-hour lab sessions per course.

The Express Program is designed for students with strong academic skills who are able to complete the ESL program in a shorter time.  Students who have missed the regular registration deadline may consider taking classes in the Express II semester.

2. Who can register for these classes?

Students must be able to attend classes and labs five days a week.   In addition to class and lab hours, students must be able to devote approximately three hours per day to homework and preparation for class.   Students who are working full-time or have many personal obligations may not be able to succeed in this program. The Express Program is not recommended for students who do not have strong academic skills.

3. Which current ESL students can participate in the Express Program?

Current students may register for the Express Program providing that they have completed the prerequisites for the course(s). Students should not register for Express and regular semester courses simultaneously.

4. Can students get Financial Aid for the Express courses?

Financial aid is available for eligible students. Students must apply at the Financial Aid Office.

5. When and where can students register for the Express Program?

New students must first apply at the Admissions Office where they will be scheduled for a free placement test.  Courses will be determined based on the test results.  Both current and returning students may register for Express courses in the Center for Student Success.
