Criminal History Background Check
Requirement for Clinical Experience
Students who do not successfully pass a criminal history background check will not be permitted to attend the clinical component of the program.*
CRIMINAL HISTORY BACKGROUND CHECK
The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO), the primary accrediting body for our clinical agencies, has mandated criminal history background checks for all individuals involved in patient care. All nursing students must undergo criminal history background checks.
These checks are conducted by an external vendor. The cost of this background check is the student's responsibility. The information is sent to the college and the clinical agencies.
Agency personnel will evaluate the information they receive and will use their discretion to make the final decision as to each student's ability to attend clinical and engage in patient care. If a student is denied clinical placement by any clinical agency due to criminal history information, that student will not be allowed to attend or continue in the nursing program.
*All applicants must be aware that an additional criminal history background check is required by the NJ State Board of Nursing prior to licensure as a registered professional nurse.
