Instructional Designer - Grant Funded
Passaic County Community College is seeking a full time Instructional Designer. Under the supervision of the Associate Dean of Learning Resources, the Instructional Designer will be responsible primarily for assisting online faculty to enrich their online classes by identifying and developing learning content, course objectives and assessments which are effective in the online class environment. This individual will suggest and create media and additional content types to meet and supplement the course objectives in both online and face-to-face classes to help students with more successful learning outcomes. The successful candidate will also work closely with the Faculty Peer Trainer to assist in PCCC’s online training program for new faculty in the areas of online course design and pedagogy.
The Instructional Designer will assist the staff of the Distance Education Department to handle student problems with the use of technology involved in online learning, including the learning management system and ancillary software. This person will be able to assist with student registration issues and academic advisement of online students.
A Bachelor’s Degree in Instructional Design or related field is required, with Master’s Degree preferred. Either one year of experience working with instructional technology in a higher educational environment or a combination of one year’s work as an Instructional Designer and/or experience in teaching online classes is also required. The successful candidate should have knowledge of and experience with principles of sound online course pedagogy, preferably QualityMatters, experience working with a learning management system, preferably WebCT/Blackboard, as well as Student Information Systems, preferably Datatel Colleague.
The successful candidate must be familiar using standard hardware, software and languages used in online course environments, including but not limited to video lecture capture, HTML, video editing and website design. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are essential. Familiarity with an urban community college environment will be preferred.
