ESL for Health Bridge Program (NUFA)

Also known as Medical Secretaries, Admitting Clerks or Medical Receptionists, these professionals are responsible for welcoming people into clinics, hospitals and other medical facilities and directing them to the appropriate contacts / areas (i.e., physicians, specialists, technicians); providing information in person or by telephone; performing duties such as front desk security; and scheduling appointments using manual or computerized systems; receiving and recording payment for services.  

 

What we offer:

Program participants will attend an ESL BRIDGE class in the summer which will prepare them for the CERTIFICATE COURSE in the Fall.  Participants will receive instruction in:

  • Medical Terminology & Human Anatomy
  • Basic Computer Operations
  • Office Procedure
  • Billing
  • Clinical Procedures
  • Employability Skills


 

 Eligibility:

  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check
  • Financial eligibility: Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) General Assistance recipient , or low income as determined by federal poverty guidelines
  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Intermediate /Advanced ESL level and qualifying scores on the program admission tests
