Walter Eres was born in Austria and studied art in Sao Paulo, Brazil.  He moved to the United States and served in the Vietnam War.  In 1980 Eres received a BFA degree from William Paterson University and also studied at New York University, the Brooklyn Museum, and the National Academy of Art.

About his work, Walter Eres states, “the primary emphasis in my recent paintings has been on the landmarks and buildings of Paterson, New Jersey, the Passaic Falls, the factories and ruins.”  He has painted large murals and also a series of small expressive, painterly interior scenes.  In Garret Mountain, Eres presents an expressive view of this Paterson landmark true to his more painterly style.
