Jack White Leaning

Jack White
Ancestral Leaning #210, 1999
Acrylic, wood, copper, linen, 35 ½” x 42”
Gift of the artist

Jack White writes, “The works included in the Ancestral Leanings series are outside the boundaries of traditional painting.  They contain elements of the spiritual, the artistic, and the utilitarian that define African art.  I hesitate to put them into a category; I only know that in a very special way, they connect me with my African ancestors.”

White studied art at Morgan State University and Syracuse University and has shown his work in more than 40 one person exhibitions.  His work is represented in many public collections, including the Schomberg Cultural Center, New York City, Tampa Museum of Art, Tampa, FL, Arkansas Arts Center, Little Rock, AR, and the African American Museum, Dallas, TX.
