Beat Generation poet and writer Diane di Prima is the author of thirty-five books of poetry and prose, and she is also a landscape painter.

Di Prima writes about her watercolor paintings: “The pull and thrust of landscape – its surges, whirlpools, parabolas and vectors – is a dance on another time-scale than the human one.  Looking at land, sky, sea, I feel them in my body, and my response is kinesthetic.

For me painting is gestural – it is a dance that mimics my body’s response to the image (“real” or imagined) and seeks to recreate a corresponding sense of movement in the viewer.”
