HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH EXHIBIT
AT PASSAIC COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Passaic County Cultural and Heritage Council at Passaic County Community College is pleased to present NIGHT OF WONDERS, an exhibition of paintings and photographs by New Jersey artist ANTHONY L. RODRIGUEZ.  Inspired by buildings and places in Asbury Park, NJ and Coney Island, NY, Rodriguez creates environments of mystery and wonder.  The exhibition is on view in the Broadway & LRC Galleries at Passaic County Community College from September 29 through November 8, 2012.   A reception for the artist will be held in the Broadway Gallery on Thursday, October 4, 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.  Admission to the exhibit and reception is free and open to the public.

Of Puerto Rican heritage, Anthony Rodriguez is a painter, photographer and exhibition designer.  His atmospheric paintings and photographs reflect his interest in forgotten, out-of-the-way places, such as parts of Asbury Park and Coney Island.  He says, “Lonely, degraded, romantic and isolated places attract me because they make me feel comfortable and uncomfortable.”    Rodriguez also likes the night with all the mysteries and inspiration it brings him.

His work is influenced by the painters Edward Hopper and Vincent Van Gogh and by film noir.  Armed with his camera and his imagination, Rodriguez transforms the images he captures into expressive paintings, visual narratives to be interpreted by viewers. The paintings and photographs on display in Night of Wonders are excellent examples of Rodriguez’s vision.

Anthony Rodriguez is currently Exhibition Designer/Photographer at the George Segal Gallery, Montclair State University.  He received an M.F.A. in Painting and Photography from Montclair State University and a B.F.A. from Kean University.  Rodriguez has received artist residencies from the Vermont Studio Center and I-Park Artist Enclave in Connecticut.  He has exhibited his work at the Shore Institute of Contemporary Arts, Long Branch, NJ; Red Bank International Film Festival; P.P.O.W., New York City and other regional venues.

The Broadway & LRC Galleries are located at Passaic County Community College, Broadway at Memorial Drive in the downtown historic district of Paterson, New Jersey.   Hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
