In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Passaic County Cultural and Heritage Council at Passaic County Community College and Colombianos en Accion are pleased to present THE CALL OF LIFE, an exhibition of paintings by Colombian artist ELIZABETH TORRES. The exhibit is on view in the Broadway & LRC Galleries from October 1 through October 30, 2004.


The Broadway & LRC Galleries are located at Passaic County Community College, Broadway at Memorial Drive in the downtown historic district of Paterson, New Jersey. Hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A reception for the artist will be held in the gallery on Friday, October 15, 2:00-4:00 p.m. Admission to the exhibit and reception is free. The gallery is wheel chair accessible.

Born in Bogota, Colombia, artist Elizabeth Torres is a resident of Elizabeth, New Jersey. Though only 16 years old, she is an accomplished painter, poet, and radio host. The twenty paintings in this exhibit, The Call of Life, reflect her Latin American heritage and mature style. Torres combines color, abstract figures, pattern and words in her highly imaginative work.

Elizabeth Torres has studied at the Art Students League of New York. Her art work has been widely exhibited in Colombia, Mexico, Costa Rica, Spain, Portugal, and the United States. She has received numerous awards for her work and was named Cultural Ambassador of the City of Elizabeth, New Jersey.
