By Gildardo Rengifo

The twenty-five paintings featured in this exhibit, “Villages of Colombia,” celebrate Gildardo Rengifo’s Latin American heritage and memories of his native country. These works are alive with vibrant color and amazing, stylized detail. Rengifo’s fanciful scenes are filled with mountain landscapes, tropical flowers, and people engaged in the daily activities of village life. Flying kites, coffee farming, holiday festivals, bull fights and village markets are some of his favorite subjects.

Born in Alvarado Tolima, Colombia, Gildardo Rengifo began painting at an early age and later studied art at Escuela de Bellas Artes in Bogota. In 1997 his work was chosen to be used as a greeting card to benefit UNICEF, United Nations Children’s Fund. Rengifo’s paintings have been exhibited worldwide and are in numerous private collections.
