Ashley Kesling believes that humans have lost their ability to see the true nature of their surroundings.  Her work is primarily about the communication between animals.  Using color, line, and pattern she presents animals the way they see one another and the world around them. She says, “My intense connection with animals stems from my childhood.  I was raised with an extensive animal family including cats, dogs, goats, ducks, chickens and donkeys.  The fact that they were not human was of no consequence to me, they were my family.  Growing up, my mother, who has Cherokee ancestry, instilled in me a great respect for fur and feather alike with beautiful Native American folk stories, and the patterns I use in my work are influenced by traditional Native American pattern work.”  Fox Talk and Cosmic Love on the Prairie are excellent examples of the artist’s lively colorful work to be exhibited at Passaic County Community College.  See more of her drawings and paintings at

Kesling has exhibited her work at Flux Factory, Long Island City, NY; Heidi Cho Gallery, NYC; Artists Space, NYC, and is currently participating in Emerging Patterns at 14 Maple Gallery, Morristown, NJ

Born in Raleigh, NC, Ashley Kesling received her B.A. degree in Studio Art from Wake Forest University and her M.F.A. in Painting from Parsons School of Design.  She has worked at Smack Mellon Gallery and A.I.R. Gallery in Brooklyn, NY, and is currently the Local Arts Development Coordinator of the Passaic County Cultural & Heritage Council at Passaic County Community College in Paterson, NJ.
