PCCC Alumna and Paterson Resident
 Moves Up at Marriott

Claudia Marte is an alumna on the move…upward.  She graduated from PCCC in 2009 with her A.S. degree in Business Administration/Hospitality Management and went on to Jersey City State University where she received a B.A. in Business Administration with a dual specialization in international business and travel. She now as an eye on an MBA degree, so she can advance in the job she landed through PCCC’s special partnership with the Marriot hotel chain.

“This is a very rewarding career,” said the Paterson resident who has been employed at the Newark Liberty International Airport Marriott for the past year. “Marriott is a great company that takes care of its employees and empowers them to grow with the company.”

Now preparing to take her GMAT for entry into an MBA program, Claudia hopes to eventually attain the position of events manager or even general manager with the hotel chain.

She credits much of her success to PCCC professors who have real world business experience, particularly Dr. Tom Cox and Professor Ed Pagan. “They are two of the best,” she said.  “I know I would not have accomplished as much as I have without their encouragement and leadership.”

Dr. Cox, chair of the Business Administration department at PCCC recalls Claudia as “a very good, conscientious student.” Though PCCC’s internship program with Marriott had not yet been established when Claudia was a student, Dr. Cox had a network of contacts in the hospitality field and recommended her to John Magnifico, general manager of the Newark Marriott, when Mr. Magnifico was seeking to fill a position.

“Claudia was hired because of her passion for customer service and great personality,” said Mr. Magnifico. “She is doing a great job.”

Though her sights are set on a higher professional altitude, the ambitious young woman remains grounded in her appreciation for how she got started.

“I believe PCCC gave me a great foundation to develop my professional career within this company,” said Claudia. “I’m very grateful that I attended PCCC.”
