Valeri Altouma is Named to the All-USA Academic Team and Receives a Coca-Cola Foundation Bronze Scholarship

Valeri Altouma, a biology major and member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, has been selected as a Bronze Scholar for the prestigious Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation 2019 All-USA Academic Team.

Valeri is one of 50 Bronze Scholars who will receive a $1,000 scholarship award this year from the Foundation, which administers the annual scholarship award through Phi Theta Kappa, the honor society for two-year colleges.

“I’m very happy to receive this award, said Valeri. “It is an honor and the scholarship will be very helpful.”

There were over 2,000 applicants for this year’s All-USA Academic Team, according to the Foundation. Selection of the scholars is based on both academic achievement and demonstrated leadership skills.

Valeri maintains a 3.9 GPA and has served since last spring as president of Alpha Eta Chi, PCCC’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. She expects to graduate this May with her associate’s degree in biology and plans to continue her education in a baccalaureate program at a four-year college or university and pursue a career in dentistry.

Formal recognition of the scholars and presentation of the scholarship award will be held in April at the PTK Catalyst, Phi Theta Kappa’s Annual Convention, in Orlando, Florida.

Valeri will also be honored as a recipient of the All-USA in Trenton on May 8th at the NJ Community College Scholars Program.   (Read more about Valeri)
