About the Exhibition

This unique exhibit is the first by The Graphic Design & Fine Arts Club and features 14 block prints by 11 artists. All but one of the artists are graphic arts majors at PCCC.

Each print depicts a repeating design in various shadings of black ink on recycled soft white, textured wallpaper, creating varied moods and patterns and, in some cases, political and social commentary.
The discarded wallpaper was salvaged by students from a local trash bin and recycled as art paper.

“The wallpaper created an interesting texture and gave the block print life,” said Ardra Spector, a graphic design instructor and advisor to the GDFA Club.  “You need to look closely to see the patterning.
We were worried the ink would dry too slowly or not at all, but the opposite happened,  as the paper is so thick, it absorbed the ink.”

Visitors to the September 28 reception will have the opportunity to meet some of the artists and hear them talk about their work.
