Tamara Whitmire, Public Relations Officer of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at PCCC, has been selected as one of the 2016 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar by the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) international organization.
Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise scholars are selected on the basis of outstanding academic achievement and demonstrated leadership potential.  They each receive a $1,000 scholarship award intended to help new PTK members who are enrolled in a two-year college defray educational expenses in order to develop their leadership potential through participation in  PTK programs.  This year’s recipients were selected by a panel of independent judges from more than 1,100 applicants.
“Phi Theta Kappa has enhanced my learning experience at PCCC,” says Tamara, a Nurse Education major who is also a state Licensed Practical Nurse and a mother. “PTK helps me build leadership skills and provides an innovative learning environment.
A participating member of the TRiO program at PCCC, Tamara is a honor student who has maintained a 4.0 GPA and achieved the Dean’s List during every college-level semester of her enrollment at PCCC.
She aspires to obtain a master’s degree in Nurse Education in order to encourage the health and well-being of others.
“Phi Theta Kappa has prepared me with confidence, support, and resources to thrive,” says Tamara. “The fellowship and service aspects of PTK helps members develop a positive self-image, and that helps me to succeed.” Congratulations Tamara!
