Poetry Center Director and English Professor to be Featured at Paterson Arts Conference

Posted April 12, 2018

A documentary film about the life and poetry of Maria Mazziotti-Gillan, Director of PCCC’s Poetry Center, will be the first feature of the daylong “Paterson Through the Arts,” event April 13 at William Paterson University.

The film “All That Lies Between Us,” is based on Ms. Gillan’s 2007 book of the same title and explores the poet’s early years growing up in Paterson and the influence the city has had on her poetry.

The one-hour documentary was written, produced, and directed by Kevin Carey and Mark Hillringhouse, an English professor at PCCC, writer, and art photographer, who has collaborated with Ms. Gillan on several publications and whose work has also been influenced by the city of Paterson.

Featured in the film are interviews with Ms. Gillan as she reminisces about her childhood and the industrial past of the city where her Italian immigrant parents settled and raised their family.

Screening starts at 10:30 am.  Following the film is an artists’ panel featuring Ms. Gillan, Professor Hillringhouse, and Mr. Carey.

“Paterson Through the Arts,” is the theme of this year’s annual Paterson Metropolitan Region Annual Research Conference, sponsored by the University.   See the flyer below.
