“Lou in the Fall,” by Isabella T., Age 9

The Passaic County Cultural & Heritage Council at Passaic County Community College is pleased to present “PORTRAIT OF PATERSON,” an exhibit by young photographers in the PATERSON YOUTH PHOTOGRAPHY PROJECT.  Fifty color prints by photographers, ages 9 to 14, are on view in the Broadway & LRC Galleries from June 15 through August 18, 2006.

The Broadway & LRC Galleries are located at Passaic County Community College on Broadway at Memorial Drive, in the downtown historic district of Paterson, New Jersey.  Summer hours after June 15 are Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Admission to the exhibit is free.

The mission of the Paterson Youth Photography Project (PYPP) at Oasis is to enrich the lives of school age children in Paterson by introducing them to photography as a means for personal growth.  The goal of PYPP is to teach photography to school age children in Paterson – in a classroom, in the field, and as part of an organized mentoring program.

By mastering both artistic and technical skills, children gain self-confidence, recognition for their talents, marketable skills, and a sense of hope for their futures.  By learning from adult mentors, they gain one – on – one attention and positive role models.

The results of the PYPP program and the efforts of the young photographers who participate in it can be seen in this extraordinary exhibit.
