Creating an Impact
Urban Scholars for Climate Change: Student Spotlight
In the summer of 2022, eleven PCCC students participated in student research projects focused on identifying local solutions to climate change. With the support of faculty mentors, these students explored climate change issues such as clean water, air pollution, the effects of plants on air quality, and rising water levels.
Recognizing that the Passaic River directly impacts her local community, Jocelyne Romano decided to study the water rise levels in the Passaic River Basin. Her research indicated that the Passaic River’s chemical composition is changing for the worse and that compounding external factors could further impact the river’s conditions.
She has since transferred to New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), where she is studying Mechanical Engineering and plans to pursue her passion for climate change.
Jocelyne’s story is just one example of how the Urban Scholars for Climate Change students came together to research the effects of climate change right in their own backyards.
